FOLLOWING the brutal slaying of hard-hitting broadcaster Percy Mabasa, more popularly known as Percy Lapid to his listeners, Monday night while entering a subdivision in Las Pinas City in Metro Manila, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office assured its readiness to protect all media practitioners in Pangasinan if their safety is compromised.

In a message to local news media practitioners in a group chat of PNP Media Group, P/Capt. Ria Tacderan, PPPO public information officer, stated “as your partner in fighting crimes, your PNP is ready to protect you whenever your safety is compromised”.

She urged all media practitioners in the province to inform the police immediately if anyone receives a death and the police will immediately make arrangements for their protection 24/7.

Mabasa, elder brother of former National Press Club president Roy Mabasa, is known for his daily commentary “Lapid Fire” aired over radio station DWBL in Manila and is also seen on YouTube. He had been a vocal critic of the past Duterte administration and the Marcos administration that succeeded it.

The PNP has formed a special investigation task group that could fast track the identification and arrest of the killers, including the mastermind. (Leonardo Micua)
