Landslides close Villa Verde highway
THE Villa Verde Road in Barangay Malico in San Nicolas town, famous for its Baguio-like scenery and cool temperature, is temporarily closed to motorists and tourists after a series of landslides in the area last week brought about by torrential rains caused by Typhoon Florita and ‘habagat’.
Bernard Leo Serquiña, San Nicolas Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, said clearing operations by the Department of Public Works and Highways are ongoing.
He said the highway will be reopened once clearing operations are completed and no typhoons are forecasted to the hit the area.
The Villa Verde trail is an alternate route to individuals seeking to travel to the eastern part of Luzon.
The road connects San Nicolas in Pangasinan and Santa Fe town in Nueva Vizcaya province.
Because of this trail, motorists are able to cut their travel time when traveling through the Caraballo mountains. (Ahikam Pasion)
