DILG directs road clearing operations anew

THE Dagupan City government was recently directed anew to conduct road clearing operations in all the barangays per guidelines set in 2019.

Romary Soriano, newly assigned local government operations officer in Dagupan, reiterated the directive when she spoke before the Sangguniang Panlungsod last Tuesday, citing the need to clear all roads, sidewalks, road shoulders and public pathways of all obstructions and illegal structures.

She added that barangays must conduct road clearing operations at least once a month and are required to submit documentation on the same to prove that they conducted the road clearing operations.

She clarified that clearing of national roads must be coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways and road clearing should not be construed as a step to road widening.

The memorandum of the DILG on road clearing was not only addressed to the LGUs but also to the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

A validation and assessment team from the DILG will again be organized to validate the performance of the city government.

Soriano also pointed out that the city government’s ordinance penalizing obstructions on public roads and sidewalks, should be constantly revisited and updated to give it more teeth, particularly designating places for ambulant vendors. (Leonardo Micua)
