Plans for Dagupan City public schools bared
PLANS for the Department of Education’s priority projects for both elementary and secondary public schools in Dagupan City were presented to Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez during a meeting of the Local School Board.
Dagupan City Schools Division Superintendent Aguedo Fernandez cited the construction of new school buildings and the repair and maintenance of existing buildings and facilities as among the priorities.
Other projects include the purchase of additional learning modules, strengthening the Alternative Learning System, benchmarking activities and others.
For her part, Mayor Fernandez enumerated her plans in support of the schools vegetable gardening and aquaponics program for implementation schools, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the community.
Aquaponics is a food production system that combines aquaculture and hydroponics for the breeding of fish and a variety of plants, then the nutrient-rich aquaculture water is fed to hydroponically-grown plants which mimic a natural ecosystem.
Mayor Fernandez said the use of aquaponics in schools will serve as a livelihood opportunity in the community.
BFAR Provincial Fishery Officer Mary Ann Salomon expressed the agency’s cooperation in conducting orientation and training in schools for the proper implementation of aquaponics. (CIO)
