No interruption in garbage collection, disposal in city
DAWEL BRIDGE NOT A FACTOR
DESPITE restrictions for crossing the Dawel Bridge, collection and disposal of garbage at the dump site by the Waste Management Division (WMD) continues.
This was stressed by Councilor Lino Fernandez, chairman of the Liga ng mga Barangays in Dagupan in a privilege speech before the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on Tuesday.
Fernandez reacted to a letter of Barangay Tapuac chairman Nelson Cuison to the Sanggunian who complained about garbage disposal in “many urbanized barangays” in the city.
He said it appears only Barangay Tapuac has a problem because no other barangay complained.
He said waste collection in the barangays is continuing and the WMD picks these up from Barangay Material Recovery Facilities for delivery to the dumpsite.
He added that, the WMD continues to pass through the Dawel Bridge because its daily cargo from the segregated garbage are light.
Fernandez took the occasion to make the city government resume its talks for the return of the Waste to Worth project that will convert plastic into diesel fuel and solid wastes into methane gas useful for cooking and for lighting.
The project, negotiated by Mayor Belen Fernandez in 2018, was aborted by the past city administration. (Leonardo Micua)
