Capitol bans entry of hogs from south
GOV. Ramon Guico III issued an executive order implementing a temporary total ban on the entry of live swine/pigs and pork from the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga and Tarlac into the province.
Executive Order No. 025-2022 signed by Gov. Guico on August 18 took note that the African Swine Fever (ASF), a high-impact transboundary animal disease (TAD), is still raging in provinces south of Pangasinan.
The E.O. cited the continuing effect of ASF on the swine production sector of the Philippines with no vaccine or known cure to date, resulting in industry estimate of 36% reduction of national swine inventory, impacting both livelihood and agricultural economy of the country.
Guico said the Department of Agriculture through an administrative order, called for intensified response by the government against ASF where the agency, academe, private stakeholders and swine industry experts provide technical and support and services to empower LGUs in the implementation of the ‘Bantay ASF sa Barangay’ program.
He directed all mayors to form their respective ‘Bantay ASF sa Barangay’ task forces to prevent the animal disease from infecting hogs in their communities.
The governor also directed the Provincial Veterinary Quarantine Officers to continue to inspect and man the quarantine checkpoints earlier established for the purpose, and all mayors to strengthen biosafety, hygiene and sanitation standards in slaughterhouses, abattoirs, and public markets in their respective jurisdictions in order to ensure the safety of the people of Pangasinan and the local swine industry.
