Tourist arrivals in Pangasinan up by 80%

THE Pangasinan Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) is finally seeing a rising trend in tourist arrivals in the province this year as a post-pandemic development.

PTCAO chief Maria Luisa Elduayan said 3.5 million tourist arrivals were logged from January to July this year, 80% higher compared to the first half of 2021 that recorded only 691,901 tourist arrivals.

She said of the recent tourist arrivals, 1,704 were foreign tourists mainly from India, Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Korea, Singapore, Australia, China, Saudi Arabia, Peru, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Guam, New Zealand,”, said Elduayan.

The tourists were accommodated in 223,060 establishments, while others were considered as ‘day tourists’ that did not require overnight accommodations.

Tourist arrivals peaked on April, when 1.3 million tourists visited Pangasinan.

Top tourist destination in the province was Manaoag town – an internationally recognized Marian pilgrimage site that recorded a 2.1 million visitors. Manaoag’s visitors peaked during the Holy Week when 868,307 devotees visited.

Bolinao town, considered today as the top sun and beach destination in Region 1, was second top destination.

Alaminos City, famous for its Hundred Islands National Park, was third favorite while Lingayen, the seat of provincial power, was fourth popular destination.

Natividad town, now gaining popularity as a pilgrimage area with its Christ the Redeemer statue near the Caraballio Mountains, was fifth top destination. (Ahikam Pasion)
