IN response to the inaugural address of Gov. Ramon Guico III, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed an ordinance creating a Provincial Economic Development Investment and Promotion Office in the province of Pangasinan.

The said ordinance (No. 1) provided the budgetary requirements of the newly created office and adopted policies for the same to govern its organizational structure and staffing pattern.

In his speech during the commencement program of the Unibersidad de Dagupan, Guico echoed: “We are promoting the province to become an investment center because we need jobs.”

Gusto ko, may trabaho tayong lahat at may mapagkikitaan,” the governor said.

Guico said he intends to establish one economic zone in each of the six congressional districts of Pangasinan. “All of these will host different industries, local or foreign-owned, that will open jobs to the Pangasinenses,” he said.

He already established an economic zone in Binalonan, his hometown, in Fifth District and with the help of former Bayambang Mayor Cezar Quiambao, Guico’s consultant on foreign and domestic investments, a new economic zone is now rising in Bayambang.

Guico said the new office will promote Pangasinan as a new destination of investments in the Philippines so that it can transform its agricultural economy into industrial economy.

But according to him, with the coming industrialization of Pangasinan, agriculture need not take the back seat as farmers will continuously be assisted for them to increase their crop production.

Meanwhile, the SP also created the Provincial Hospital and Management and Service Office to manage the 14 provincial government-run hospitals of Pangasinan. (Leonardo Micua)
