LINGAYEN– Governor Amado Espino Jr. has committed more funding for special programs designed to mitigate the suffering of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the province.

The province, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), is undertaking the projects for PWDs, in partnership with Breaking Barrier for Children (BBC), Katipunan ng May Kapansanan sa Pilipinas (KAMPI), and the Danish Society of Polio and Accident Victims which established Therapeutic Activity Centers (STAC) in 32 towns and two component cities, Urdaneta and Dagupan.

The provincial government support was assured by Executive Assistant Ramon Morden, who represented the governor in the 29th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation week observance held on Wednesday at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

Citing its theme, “Kapag May Access, May Success,” Morden said the week-long program for the disabled further creates community awareness for the needs of physically challenged members of the community.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member and Liga ng Barangay Federation President Amadeo Espino, in turn, pledged full support for barangay officials in launching grassroots-based projects for disabled persons.

Under the program, disabled children belonging to indigent families can avail of free comprehensive, community-based rehabilitation services like physical and occupational therapy, special education, pre-school training, therapeutic exercises, cognitive stimulation, sign language instruction and basic speech therapy.

To date, a total of 3,600 children with disability provincewide have already availed of STAC services.
