MAYOR BELEN SHARES TIPS

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Central Pangasinan Field Office, in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Dagupan City, recently awarded 30 bicycles to members of the LGBTQIA+ community and persons with disabilities for the agency’s Free Bisikleta (FreeBis) project.

FreeBis is a project under the Integrated Livelihood Program of DOLE meant to help ease unemployment by providing livelihood opportunities to workers in the formal and informal sectors displaced by the COVID pandemic.

The beneficiaries also received helmet, insulated bag, reflectorized vest, and raincoat, to ensure their protection while doing their business-on-wheels. They also each received mobile phones with P5,000 load, as part of package of the project.

During the event, Mayor Belen Fernandez shared tips on how to start a small business who said online businesses and delivery services have taken a huge following as more people desire for convenience in their everyday living.

She said a business can start small with only a handful of products but can eventually grow and prosper through a lot more hard work, determination and sacrifice.

As an entrepreneur herself, the mayor shared her experience in business while helping out with her family-owned grocery store in handling various aspects such as cash registry, merchandising and bagging.

Fernandez encouraged the beneficiaries to undertake branding promotion that would make products distinct and stand better from the rest. (CIO/PIA Pangasinan)
