BASED ON EVALUATION, MONITORING

THE regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) dropped 128,000 families from the list of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in the region.

DSWD Regional Director Maria Golapan said the agency conducted a stringent evaluation and monitoring of listed beneficiaries and 128,000 were determined to be not qualified as ‘poorest of the poor’.

Since the 4Ps is aimed at helping send children of poor families, many of the delisted families no longer have children attending schools, and or whose families are not evaluated to be impoverished.

Still others voluntarily opted out of the 4Ps program.

Golapan said more families are expected to be delisted as the evaluation continues.

The 4Ps program is a national poverty reduction strategy, and a human capital investment program launched by the Philippine government.

Criteria to be included in the program includes that a family must be an indigent among the country’s poorest municipalities, household economic status must be below the provincial poverty level, those that have children from 0 to 18 years old, or a pregnant member of the family during the assessment and evaluation.

Beneficiaries receive a cash assistance through the program. (Ahikam Pasion)
