Dagupeños get free eye check-up, cataract screening
UNLISERBISYO IN DAGUPAN
SOME 1,000 Dagupeños benefited from the free eye checkup and cataract screening activity on July 26, 2022 at the CSI Stadia as part of the Unliserbisyo program on health of Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Most of the patients were from the elderly group or senior citizens who had symptoms of dull vision due to cataract or other related eye conditions.
Dr. Bernardita Navarro, an ophthalmologist from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), said those who underwent cataract screening and others who need eye surgery need to undergo some more tests to ensure that they are fit for the operation.
The tests may also include a B-scan in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scan and corneal topography for cataract operations and excision of pterygium, Navarro said.
Mayor Fernandez coordinated with doctors and specialists from UST to pursue the planned medical-surgical missions.
The one-day mission was made in coordination with doctors and nurses from UST, City Health Office headed by Dr. Ophelia Rivera, barangay health workers and volunteers.
Dr. Vicky Tada of Siapno-Tada Optical also extended support to the program by giving free reading glasses. (CIO)
