Urbiztondo mayor deplores predecessor’s policy
NO TRANSPARENCY IN PROJECTS
URBIZTONDO mayor Modesto Operania bewailed the lack of transparency in the implementation of projects in the town by former mayor Martin Raul Sison II resulting in doubts about their legitimacy and propriety.
Operania, in an interview, cited the town’s People’s Park which did not inform the public of the project profile, program of work, contractor, and pricing, among others through billboards or tarpaulins.
He said the town residents were not informed that the park project that was allotted a PHP26 million-budget was done on government property and how the funds were spent.
Operania also revealed that the site of the people’s park is owned by the Catholic Church, and the property is being used by the Urbiztondo government under a lease agreement.
He lamented that the town spent P26 million on a land that is not owned by the government.
He said this fact was not known to the public until he asked the municipal engineer to explain the terms for the construction of the plaza since the land is owned by the church.
Operania said he ordered the municipal engineer to make the details of the construction of the People’s Park public through a billboard if only to minimize legal complications that may arise from the project.
The mayor revealed that the Urbiztondo government has an outstanding P138 million loan, payable in 15 years.
The PUNCH tried to contact former Mayor Sison but to no avail. (Ahikam Pasion)
