Acute gastroenteritis cases in Pangasinan up, 19 dead

THERE has been 107 percent increase in acute gastroenteritis (AGE) cases from January to July 18 this year in Pangasinan.

Surveillance Monitoring of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reveals 3,641 cases were recorded this year, compared to 1,674 cases recorded last year over the same period.

So far, 19 individuals already died this year.  Only ten individuals died last year.

Four of the 19 deaths recorded were in Dagupan City, while the towns of Pozorrubio, Basista, Mangaldan, and San Fabian have recorded two deaths each, while one death was recorded in the towns of Anda, Calasiao, Binmaley, Bugallon, Sison, San Quintin, Umingan, and the city of Urdaneta.

Meanwhile, the PHO has placed the following towns in its watch list: Umingan (226); Lingayen (191); Mangaldan (181); Malasiqui (163); Bolinao (158); San Carlos City (146); Binmaley (132); Pozorrubio (124); Alaminos City (121); and Dasol (120). (Ahikam Pasion)
