New “fully vaxxed” definition mulled

THE Department of Health always referred to individuals who had two doses of vaccines as “fully vaxxed” but apparently having two doses are no longer enough to keep the COVID-19 infection from rising.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is expected to change the definition of ‘fully vaccinated’ to refer to individuals who had two doses of vaccine and one booster shot in the light of another uptick in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person of the DOH-CHD Region 1 said the inclusion of first booster shot to earn the ‘fully vaccinated’ tag will encourage more to have their first boosters shots administered.
Bobis said the IATF is discussing plans to amend the definition of the tag upon the suggestion of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Data shows only 20 to 25 percent of the total population in Region 1 have received their booster jabs while 8,206,721 doses of vaccines administered throughout the region.
In Pangasinan, 1,944,066 individuals, or 80.78% of the eligible population have received their ‘full doses’.
Meanwhile, 551,037 individuals in the region aged 12 to 17 years old already received their full vaccination, or 101% vaccination coverage of the age group, but health authorities are currently challenged by the pedia group, or individuals aged five to 11 years old, due to their low vaccine coverage.
Bobis said only 284,564 individuals, or 43.33% of the eligible population in the region under that age group are fully vaccinated to date. (Ahikam Pasion)
