Teens crowd Comelec to register
FOR BARANGAY, SK POLLS
SINCE opening its doors on Monday, July 4, the COMELEC Dagupan Office has been busy processing early registrants – mostly teenagers – for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on December 5.
Teens, aged 15 and above, and also individuals who will turn 15 by the election period have been lining up at the city’s election office.
Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, Dagupan City Election Officer, said day one of their registration on July 4 ended up with 166 newly-registered individuals.
Last May 9, 2022 elections, Sarmiento said there were 138,721 voters registered in the city, and 89.95% voter turnout was noted.
Given the current trend, he expects around four thousand newly-registered voters that would make around 142,000 total registered voters in Dagupan City.
The registration process will only last for three weeks, with July 23 being the last day. The only requirement for first time voters is to bring their respective copies of their birth certificates.
Sarmiento urged the public to observe health protocols during the registration process. (Ahikam Pasion)
