DENGUE cases in Region 1 have dropped significantly by 86.6% this year compared to 2021.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, spokesperson for the Center for Health Development Region 1 (CHD), said only 372 dengue cases have been recorded from January until June 1, 2022 compared to 2,828 cases tallied same period last year.

While cases have dropped compared to last year, Bobis said households should not feel complacent, as the cases usually rise in final weeks of June, when more rains are experienced.

In Pangasinan, Dr. Vernon Masakayan from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), said dengue cases have also dropped by 82%.

Only 283 dengue cases were reported compared to 1,500 cases recorded in January to June 2021.

Both health authorities agreed that the decrease can be attributed mainly to increased activities in all localities to destroy all possible hatching areas of mosquitoes; fogging and insecticide spraying, and other combined efforts.

Meanwhile, as of press time, the towns being monitored by the PHO for their dengue cases are: San Carlos City (28); Calasiao (23); Sta. Barbara (22); Lingayen (16); Binmaley (15); Alaminos City (11), Dasol (11), Malasiqui (11) and Umingan (11). (Ahikam Pasion)
