Provincial IATF flays overloading of buses
THE Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) expressed alarm over reports that buses plying the routes in the province are overloading, exceeding their authorized full capacity allowed under Alert Level 1 classification in violation of the social distancing protocol.
IATF provincial vice chairman Rhodyn Oro told the Sangguniang Panlalawigan some public buses are allowing passengers to board with no seats available.
Oro said national agencies will be apprised of the overloading situation to determine if passengers are allowed to stand on the aisles if all seats are occupied whether under Alert Level 1 or Alert Level Zero.
Oro said that under Alert Level 1, the buses can only load at 100 percent full capacity while under Alert Level Zero, PUBs may be allowed to stand on aisles especially during rush hour.
Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario believes the same situation is happening in cockpit arenas and movie houses and must be looked into immediately to prevent a possible COVID-19 surge, as OCTA Research predicted to happen in the month of June.
However, Oro downplayed the possibility of a surge and cited the latest data on May 26 that reported only four new COVID cases, or only 23 active cases in the Pangasinan. (Leonardo Micua)
