A former beauty queen in Asingan town in the 1930s-40s is now a healthy centenarian.
In a featured article that appeared in the local government’s website, Leonida Abboc of Barangay Carosucan Sur, appeared to have been more than happy to share her beauty and longevity secrets.
Leonida used to join and won beauty contests in her barangay in 1930s and 40s.
Despite the passing of time, the article spoke of the beauty that residents of the barangay have admired about her over the decades.
Responding to questions, Leonida is clearly gifted with a sharp mind and strong body.
When she was young, she said she didn’t have any vices like smoking and adopted natural ways, i.e, getting enough sleep and eating the right foods to maintain her physical attributes.
“I was careful. I seldom eat meat, only vegetables most of the time,” she told the Asingan Municipal Information Office. But her son Marcelo said she can finish two cups of rice per meal.
She’s not on any maintenance medication as well unlike most people her age. Only Vitamin C tablets daily.
On May 16, Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr, joined by the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Teresa Mamalio, Princess Poon and Office of The Senior Citizen Affairs Head Phaz Jover, handed to Leonida P10,000 cash gift from the local government fund.
She will soon receive P100,000 cash gift from the national government as part of her benefit under the Centenarians Act of 2016. (Eva Visperas)
