Orbos-led IM Pilipinas switches to Robredo
DAYS before the Holy Week vacation, a well-known Isko Moreno volunteer group, Ikaw Muna Pilipinas (IM Pinas) withdrew its support for the presidential bid of Manila Mayor Franciso ‘Isko’ Moreno-Domagoso, and shifted its support to Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday, April 12.
Overall convenor Tim Orbos, former Department of Transportation undersecretary, said Robredo has higher chances of winning,
“Hindi masama na suportahan na lang natin ang may pag-asang manalo”, said Orbos in a press conference Tuesday.
Orbos further added that their main objective in supporting Robredo is to prevent the Marcoses’ return to power, led by survey frontrunner Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The volunteer group decided to switch alliances after the recent Pulse Asia March 2022 pre-election survey showed VP Robredo gained nine (+9) percentage points from her 15-point previous rating.
Isko followed third with a slim eight percent.
Prior to Orbos and his colleagues’ announcement, several IM Pinas chapters in Visayas and Mindanao have also shifted allegiances. Other chapters, however, are pushing for a Robredo-Sara (RoSa) tandem.
Orbos clarified that before deciding on shifting support to Robredo, he requested Isko’s camp to reconsider unification talks with Robredo and other presidential candidates to prevent the Marcos ‘juggernaut’.
Despite the switch, Orbos denied that they are political butterflies.
Talks of alleged dissatisfaction among IM Pinas members, particularly being set aside during Isko’s campaign sorties, were downplayed by Orbos.
“Past is past”, he said.
