Only 5 active COVID-19 cases remaining as of March 31
ONLY five remaining active cases stand the way of Pangasinan towards attaining a COVID-free status as of March 31, according to the latest data released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The only remaining cases are located in Sta Maria (2) and one each in the towns of Lingayen, Malasiqui and Urbiztondo. The only case logged on March 31 came from Sta. Maria.
The data showed that 42 towns and cities of Pangasinan are now all COVID-free.
From 18 remaining active cases on March 24, it dropped to only five cases after a week as 19 cases had recovered against 14 new cases that were added, again with zero casualty.
With just five active cases remaining, Pangasinan, along with the city of Dagupan and the rest of provinces in Region 1, remained under Alert Level 1 from April 1 to 15 in the latest classification made by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
Corollary to these, the seven days daily average recorded by the Provincial Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the PHO was only 1.57 compared to 4.42 the seven days daily average from March 18 to 24.
Overall, there were 43,076 COVID-19 cases that were logged in the province since the start of the contagion on March 16, 2020. Of the number, 41,740 recovered while 1,331 died.
Though health officials are optimistic that Pangasinan can be declared COVID-19 free in a few days, they still advised the public to observe the minimum health protocol like the wearing of face mask, washing of hands and to maintain social distancing always. (Leonardo Micua)
