THE mayor of Lingayen issued an executive order on April 1 lifting the suspension of holding barangay fiestas and Liga sports events which he earlier imposed amidst continuing COVID threat.

Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil issued Executive Order No. 18, series 2022 withdrawing the suspension of such activities due to mounting clamor from the residents.

“Because as mayor of this town, I was only ensuring the safety of all but I also know how to listen especially that SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) officials are there, with your barangay officials, to monitor and never forget that the threat of the pandemic is still in our midst,” Bataoil said in a Facebook post.

He also urged them to convince those who are still not vaccinated to get their COVID jabs for their protection.

Bataoil issued an executive order on March 15, temporarily suspending the holding of barangays fiestas and Liga sports activities citing the 109 that died due to COVID, infected 1,723 residents including him.

“But I cannot deny the fact that many raised a howl, especially among the youth, who are already eager to play basketball or volleyball,” Bataoil said.

“As much as possible, I did not want you to have activities simultaneous with the election because I do not wish to add your exposure with the threat of COVID-19,” he said.

But he added, “As your father, I do not want to play deaf or sleep on the request of my sons who are under my care.”

Bataoil appealed to the residents to take extra precaution and follow the minimum health protocols which he has that been advocating and by the national level. (Eva Visperas)
