THE Bonuan Boquig National High School (BBNHS) Dagupan City was the first school to open its classrooms to students on Monday, March 21, after two years of distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BBNHS principal Renato Santillan said the school met all the requirements set by the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office for the conduct of expanded limited face-to-face classes.

He said the school’s faculty and administration staff started to prepare as early as December last year, with the guidance of the Dagupan City Schools Division Office (SDO), DepEd Regional Office and accompanied with constant coordination with the local government unit and other stakeholders.

Santillan said out of the 3,200 total enrollees this school year, only 1,000 students from Grade 7 to 12 responded positively to attend the in-person classes.

“Excited na excited kami dahil matapos ang dalawang taon, muli naming makakasama ang aming mga mag-aaral na may ngiti at gustong pumasok sa paaralan,” he said.

Santillan said Grades 7, 8, 11, and 12 will have classes on Monday and Tuesday, with four subjects on Mondays and the other four subjects on Tuesdays while classes of Grades 9 and 10 are scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays,

Meanwhile, Dagupan SDO superintendent Dr. Aguedo Fernandez said he is hopeful that more schools in the city will follow since the city remains under Alert Level 1.

He said all the public schools have indicated their desire to return to the classrooms.

Next week, three more schools in the city are set to start physical classes, namely Pugaro Elementary School, Suit Elementary School and West Central II Elementary School.

On April 4, in-person classes at Bonuan Boquig Elementary School are expected to commence.

The SDO Dagupan City is targeting to complete the evaluation of other schools that signified interest for the conduct of in-person classes, this week: Dagupan City National High School, Bolosan Elementary School, Salisay Elementary School and Pascuala Villamil Elementary School.

Fernandez said that in the coming weeks and months, he expects more students to participate in the limited face-to-face classes. (Jerick Pasiliao)
