Herd immunity in Pangasinan: 71.2% fully vaxxed
NEXT CHALLENGE: BOOSTER SHOTS
CHANCES of attaining full normalcy amid the COVID-19 pandemic sooner are brighter than ever.
This was the sentiment conveyed by Rhodyn Oro, vice chairman of the provincial IATF-ED, to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during its Question Hour.
While he expressed optimism, Oro said in the event a surge suddenly occurs, the provincial government has the mechanism in place to help contain the disease, with the help of the national government.
“We are still basically learning how to cope and adjust in our fight against COVID, Oro said.
Oro cited records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) that as of March 13, there were only 19 active cases left with only 3 average daily new cases.
He said the 3.354 percent attack rate during that last surge of cases two months ago was already down to 0.1896 percent last week and the utilization of isolation facilities already dropped from 3.78% to .04% (only one case in isolation) last week.
Prompted by the latest EO issued by Gov. Amado Espino III declaring an Alert Level 1 in Pangasinan, he said private work places are operating 100 percent full capacity, like the government work force since public transport units are allowed 100 percent sitting capacity.
Provincial Health Officer Dr, Anna de Guzman added that she sees no reason for surges to occur in the province and expressed the same optimism that Pangasinan may reach its normal status by the end of the year.
De Guzman said the remaining active cases, three to four cases only, are on home quarantine and so all isolation facilities put up by LGUs are now on stand-by.
Since Pangasinan already attained herd immunity with 70% of the target population vaccinated, De Guzman said expected bed utilization for COVID cases of the 14 hospitals of the provincial government, is less than 10%.
PHO data show that 1.9-M individuals (71.27% of target) have completed their vaccination while 81.2 % received their first dose. The next challenge, she said, is to increase the number of individuals to get their booster shots. (Leonardo Micua)
