He said that even at his age, he wanted to earn a college degree so when he learned about the Expanded Tertiary Accreditation Equivalency Program (ETAEP) of the PSU in Asingan wherein all his past academic achievements were credited to be enrolled in a degree program.
“May nakilala ako noon na nasabi yung program na ino-offer ng PSU-Asingan. Hindi na ako nagdalawang isip dahil gusto ko talagang makapagtapos. Dahil sa hirap ng buhay, ako ang nagtaguyod sa aking pag-aaral at nag-working student ako,” he said.
Fernando said he is beyond grateful to the PSU for having such a program that gives people the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
“I saw this opportunity to excel because with the COVID-19 around us, lahat online na at napakaraming resources na pwedeng magamit. I put a lot of sacrifices para makapasa at maging proud ang pamilya ko sa akin na kaya ko kahit mahirap ang buhay,” he said.
While reviewing for the board exam, Fernando was working as a private school teacher in Taytay, Rizal. He has been teaching for 3 years now.
“Wala talaga sa edad ang pag-aaral. If you really want to pursue something, mangyayari talaga siya,” he said.
Fernando also urged other students not to lose hope and never be afraid of life’s challenges.
Fernando said there are now a lot of opportunities that are coming up for him but he is considering working in the country as a way of giving back to the community. (Jerick James Pasiliao)
