ONLY 127 ACTIVE CASES

GIVEN the downgrading of the province’s risk classification to Alert Level 2 from February 16 to 28 and COVID-19 cases continue to decrease based on records of the Provincial Health Office as of February 17, health authorities are confident that further downgrading to Alert Level 1 may happen sooner.

For the period February 10 to 17, the 330 patients, mostly asymptomatic and suffering from mild symptoms, were only required home quarantine fully recovered while only 197 new cases and five deaths were logged.

This brought the total number of remaining active cases to just 127 from 265 before February 10.

Since the contagion started in March 2020, the province logged a total 42,898 COVID-19 cases. Of this number, 41,378 had recovered and 1,323 had died.

Statistics released by the Provincial Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the PHO showed that a 28 seven-day daily average of new cases registered from February 11 to 17, a significant drop from the seven-day daily average of 67 cases a week before February 10.

Also, only 32 of the 48 towns of Pangasinan remain infected and 32 are deemed COVID-free after Alaminos City, Asingan, Bani, Bautista, Dasol, Infanta, Mabini, Natividad, San Carlos City, San Jacinto, San Quintin, Sto. Tomas, Sual, Tayug, Urbiztondo and Villasis reported zero cases.

Meanwhile, Dagupan City still had 61 cases, the highest among the infected towns and cities as of February 16 followed by Lingayen with nine cases, Balungao (8), Calasiao (6), Mangatarem (6), Bayambang (5), Bugallon (5), Malasiqui (5), Pozorrubio, (5), Umingan (5), Urdaneta City (5), Alcala (4), Binmaley (4), Mangaldan (4), Mapandan (4), and Sta. Barbara (4 ).

With the remaining cases, mostly only on home quarantine, most of the isolations facilities in the province are vacant while others have already been dismantled. (Leonardo Micua)
