PNP urges candidates: Surrender guns for safekeeping
ALL candidates for local elective positions were advised to surrender their firearms to their respective police stations for safekeeping during the campaign for the 2022 local elections.
Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) Director P/Col. Richmond Tadina said all the provincial commands in the region are encouraging all candidates in their areas to participate in the program on orders of the Police Regional Office to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
“Malaki ang magiging pasasalamat ng kapulisan kung makikiisa ang mga kandidato dahil makikita natin ang kanilang willingness sa pagnanais ng isang tahimik na halalan,” Tadina said.
Meanwhile, Tadina said his command is continuously conducting random checkpoints in line with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
He reminded licensed firearm holders that they are not allowed to carry their guns outside their homes.
Tadina added that although there were some shooting incidents that occurred in Pangasinan last month, the province remains generally peaceful. (Jerick Pasiliao)
