THE Police Regional Office 1 launched on Thursday ‘Secure, Accurate, Free and Fair Elections 2022’, a multi-sectoral campaign under the theme KASIMBAYANAN (Kapulungan ng inyong Pulis, ng inyong Sundalo, ng inyong Bantay Dagat, ng ating COMELEC at lahat ng Lingkod Bayan kasama ang Simbahan at Pamayanan).

P/MGen Rodolfo Azurin Jr., PNP Director for Comptrollership, underscored the role of KASIMBAYANAN in uniting the efforts of all government agencies, the religious sector and the community in attaining peaceful and orderly elections.

“The church’s role in helping the PNP to ensure the conduct of SAFE 2022 elections is to seek divine guidance and enlighten everyone to accomplish their mandates based on the precepts of honesty, justice and respect to one’s belief or choice,” Azurin said.

He added that all sectors of the government should be one in attaining a peaceful election. “Because this will define what will happen to our country in the future,” he said.

The highlights of the activity were the ceremonial lighting of SAFE candles, pinning of SAFE 2022 pins and signing of a covenant of their commitment and support in by the officials of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Commission on Elections, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections and religious and community leaders of Region 1.

The program culminated with the release of white doves that symbolized peace and hope with the forthcoming political exercise on May 9. (Eva Visperas)
