Region 1 targets over 700K kids; Pangasinan, 300K

THE Department of Health Center in Ilocos Region (DOH-1) targets some 731,334 children aged 5-11 for inoculation of anti-COVID-19 vaccines starting February 14.

DOH-1 COVID-19 focal person Dr. Rheuel Bobis said Pfizer vaccines will be administered to this pediatric population given the emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration.

Bobis said of the total number, 70,133 have comorbidities.

“The vaccine formulation for the children has lesser dosage,” he said, adding that the vaccine for the children will protect them against severe effects of COVID-19.”

Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Anna de Guzman said 469,396 kids are targeted in Pangasinan. Dagupan City’s target is 27,192.

Targets in other provinces in the region are: La Union – 102,618, Ilocos Sur – 87,860 and Ilocos Norte – 71,460.

The region targets to administer the vaccines to at least 439,000 or 60 percent of the target population in one month starting February 14 and will starts in hospitals and eventually to the local government units.

The vaccination rollout for children aged 5 to 11 in the country started on February 7 at the National Capital Region.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Region is also preparing for the third leg of the National Vaccination Days (NVD) on February 10 and 11.

Targeted for the next NVD are more than 100,000 who have not received primary doses and those who should already receive booster shots.

“The LGUs will have to find their constituents (and) even go house-to-house to convince them,” he said.

As of February 7, some 6.64 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Ilocos Region, ranking the region first in the vaccination rollout in the entire country. (Jerick Pasiliao)
