ALL town and city election officers in Pangasinan, except for four, have been reshuffled in  their assignments in a move by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the province in preparation for the May polls.

Urdaneta City Election Officer Nathaniel Siaden told the Kapihan sa PIA (Philippine Information Agency) that the four election officers not included in the rigodon are those in Dagupan City, Villasis, Rosales and Manaoag.

He said the election officers in these areas were either newly appointed or are merely in acting capacity.

He clarified that those who were re-assigned to other areas are those who have been holding their position for many years and their relocation will prevent familiarity with  local political personalities that could influence political activities.

The provincial election supervisors in Region 1 were also reassigned to different areas.

Lawyer Ericson Oganiza, provincial election supervisor of Ilocos Sur, replaced lawyer Marino Salas as Pangasinan election supervisor effective Jan. 15.

Salas was designated the chief Comelec post in La Union.

Lawyer Joel Gines of La Union-Comelec is assigned to Ilocos Norte province while lawyer Alipio Castillo of Ilocos Norte was transferred to Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, Col. Richmond Tadina, Pangasinan acting police director, said in the same forum that 59 of their personnel and 11 town/city police chiefs have also been re-assigned to other areas.

He said Philippine National Police chief Police General Dionardo Carlos directed all unit commanders who have been in their position for already one year and one day to allay fears and suspicions that they are favoring certain candidate.

Tadina added that there were also 28 police directors in different provinces nationwide who were relieved from their posts because of this policy.  (Eva Visperas)
