Campaigns sorties need OK from campaign committee — COMELEC
JUST three months before the May 9, 2022 National and Local elections, the campaign period for all candidates is just a few nights away.
But before candidates can launch their campaigns, their scheduled activities and sorties must be approved by the local campaign committee.
This was pointed out by Atty. Nathaniel Siaden, OIC election supervisor of Urdaneta City, and explained the terms and rules set by the Commission on Elections during the campaign period which begins on February 9.
He said a campaign activity without committee approval may be considered a election offense, and could be a ground for disqualification.
The local campaign committee is comprised of the town or city’s election officer as the chairman, with members from the Municipal or City Health Office, local chief of police, DILG officer, and if available, members from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Siaden said election offenders may be imprisoned for not less than one year but not more than six years.
Meanwhile, Siaden echoed Comelec’s requirement that voters must wear face shields, along with face masks before they can enter election precincts on election day. (Ahikam Paion)
