Another golden bangus turned over to BFAR Dagupan
ANOTHER unique golden bangus was turned over on Jan. 20 to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Integrated Fisheries and Technology Development Center (BFAR-NIFTDC) in Dagupan City.
The golden bangus came from a fish cage in the coastal area in Sto. Tomas, La Union. It was among the 30 tons of bangus raised and harvested on that day in a fish cage in that area.
Former BFAR- NIFTDC Center Chief Westly Rosario and Samahan ng Industriyang Agrikultura Chairman Rosendo So turned over the golden bangus to Dagupan.
They were contacted by a fisherman who raised it months earlier but initially had difficulty locating it when they first went to the area.
It weighs about 700 grams and is about seven months old, Rosario said.
This is rare, a kind of Albinism, an aberration in the pigmentation and while it is considered normal, others believe it brings good luck, Rosario said.
This golden bangus from Sto. Tomas, La union will provide company to another golden bangus earlier turned over to Rosario when he was still the BFAR-NIFTDC Dagupan Center chief. (Eva Visperas)
