Five coastal areas remain red tide-free
HERE’S a piece of good news for households preparing plans for celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Based on the latest laboratory analyses of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 1, it was determined that the shellfish gathered from five coastal areas in Pangasinan have been confirmed to be red tide-free.
BFAR’s Shellfish Bulletin No. 32 series of 2021 issued on Nov. 26, 2021 showed that all types of shellfish, including Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the coastal waters of Alaminos City, Bani, Bolinao, Anda and Sual in Pangasinan are “free from toxic red tides and safe for human consumption”.
Rosario Segundina Gaerlan, officer-in-charge BFAR regional director, however, said as a precautionary measure, concerned local government units (LGUs) are advised to require their market inspectors, quarantine officers and/or administrators to demand traders for “Auxiliary Invoice” issued by the LGU from the point of origin or Local Transport Permit issued by BFAR for all fish and fishery products including seaweeds and seashells unloaded and marketed to ensure that it did not come from areas positive of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning.
