Over 400K PhilSys cards delivered to Region 1 residents
THE 416,483 Philippine Identification (PhilID) registrants in the region received their cards from the Philippine Statistics Authority as of Dec. 10.
In an interview, PSA Region 1 spokesperson Jim Ian Baustista said the number includes those cancelled due to deaths or new address.
Baustista said the delay in the delivery of some of the PhilIDs were be due to double registration or duplication and are needed to be validated.
He reminded those who have received their PhilIDs not to post their PhilSys card on social media to avoid being victimized by scammers.
Meanwhile, more than three million have already registered in the PhilSys Step 2 in the Ilocos Region as of December 21.
Bautista said 2.13 million were from Pangasinan, 252,248 from Ilocos Norte, 181,527 from Ilocos Sur, and 519,582 from La Union.
Step 2 involves the actual sign-up that includes the validation of demographic information and capture of fingerprint, iris, and face images at the PhilSys registration centers.
The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrolment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts. (Jerick Pasiliao)
