THE number of tourist arrivals in Alaminos City, the home of the famous Hundred Islands, are showing a clear indication of a return to the pre-pandemic statistics after travel restrictions in Pangasinan have been eased.

Citing statistics, Rose Aruelo, city assistant tourism officer, said an average of 1,500 tourists have been visiting the Hundred Islands every weekend since Nov. 15 when Pangasinan was placed under Alert Level 2.

The number of tourists’ arrivals is based on the record about passengers’ manifest signed by visitors before they take banca ride going to the islands.

Before the pandemic in 2019, tourists’ arrival every weekend reached 2,000 to 3,000.
She said reports on hotel bookings in the city have been seeing an increase as well.

In 2019, the city registered 13,783 foreign nationals that visited the place; 152,419 locals and 314,004 domestic tourists.

In 2020, visitors to the islands were 4,114 foreign; 33,563 local and 54,796 domestic.

This year, data from January to Dec. 12 showed 52 foreign tourists; 17,462 local and 27, 212 domestic only who flocked to the Hundred Islands.

“We see the return of tourists here again and that is a very encouraging development,” Aruelo said. (Eva Visperas)
