Comelec’s mock election set December 29
TO test its preparations, the Commission on Elections (Comelec)–Pangasinan is set to conduct a mock election on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
This was bared by provincial election supervisor Atty. Marino Salas.
Salas said the mock election will be held in Barangay Pugaro in Dagupan City, while another one will be held in Alaminos City. Salas did not identify the barangay in Western Pangasinan.
In an interview, Salas said the mock elections will be held in remote and hard-to-reach barangays since it is usually in these places where usually problems surface on election day.
He added that the exercise will help Comelec prepare its plans for the May 2022 National and Local Elections, as issues on data and internet connection, logistical issues, and many more arise.
It will be recalled that back in the 2019 elections, some areas in the province experienced these problems. Salas hopes that these problems and issues can be resolved in time before election day.
The mock elections also include their anticipation for longer polling hours.
Comelec Region 1 Assistant Director Atty. Reddy Balarbar said the voting period on May 9 will last for 13 hours, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., in order to accommodate more people, and to avoid overcrowding in polling precincts. (Ahikam Pasion)
