Campaign vs. COVID-19 in Pangasinan gaining
MORE RECOVERIES THAN NEW CASES
WITH lesser cases being reported daily as compared to the number of patients that are recovering, i.e., 1,046 active cases remaining as of October 28, from a peak of 4,844 on September 12, it would appear that the COVIID-19 pandemic is already being slowly beaten in Pangasinan.
From September 22 to 28 alone, there were 667 new cases that were logged while 818 patients had recovered and released from their isolation and confinement with the death toll pegged at 26, based on the report of the Provincial Health Office.
The 667 new cases raised the total COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan to 34,665 at least 32,473 had recovered and 1,143 had died.
As of October 28, the top municipalities under the COVID-19 watchlist of the PHO are Bayambang (56), San Carlos City (51), San Fabian (48), Bolinao (47), Mangaldan and Umingan (45), Sison (42), Lingayen and Urdaneta City (41), Malasiqui (49), Calasiao (37) and Aguilar (32).
Meanwhile, Dr. Joseph Roland Mejia, chief of the Region 1 Medical Center, warned people should not be complacent because the fourth surge of COVID-19 cases may still happen if people again relax their guard knowing the more transmittable Delta COVID-19 variant has mutated again.
This was echoed by Department of Health Assistant Secretary Elmer Punzalan who said in an interview that the situation in Pangasinan is much the same in other parts of the country and with the encouraging trend, all Filipinos are already looking forward to a merry Christmas this year.
Like the two DOH officials, Governor Amado Espino III appealed to the unvaccinated people to have themselves vaccinated soon for their long-time protection from COVID-19, and have a good fighting chance against the virus.
The governor announced that the province is ramping up its province-wide vaccination drive from November to December to achieve its target of having 70 percent of its eligible population vaccinated and attain herd immunity at least by the end of the year.
Governor Espino earlier wrote the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to ask for the downgrading of classification of Pangasinan from November 1 onward to the less restrictive Modified General Community Quarantine from General Community Quarantine with heightened restrictions.
