9 SCHOOLS IN ILOCOS NORTE IN F-TO-F CLASSES

ONLY one school in Pangasinan and 9 schools in Ilocos Norte will participate in the pilot run of limited face-to-face classes on Nov. 15, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 1.

During a virtual press conference on Wednesday, DepEd Region 1 director Dr. Tolentino Aquino revealed there were originally 14 schools that qualified in the region but upon validation, four schools were deferred.

“The four schools had COVID-19 cases so they had to be cancelled,” Aquino said.

In Pangasinan, only the Longos Elementary School (ES) in Alaminos City is included for the pilot run of the face-to-face classes; the Don Domingo Magno ES in Pozorrubio was deferred.

In Ilocos Norte, the participating schools are Alao-ao ES, Pagddagan ES in Bangui town; Bicbica ES, Buanga ES and Godogod ES in Pinili town; Dumalneg ES and Dumalneg National High School in Dumalneg town and San Isidro ES and Cacafean in Marcos town.

Aquino said the schools were approved upon the validation of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Department of Health (DOH) and DepEd Central Office.

“The conduct of the limited face-to-face classes will be closely monitored and guided by DOH to ensure that all students and DepEd personnel are safe from infection,” Aquino said.

He said among the participating pupils are in kindergarten up to the third grade and they need strict and close supervision.

Meanwhile, DepEd Region 1 medical officer Dr. Mariejoy Castillo said vaccinated teachers will have the priority for teaching assignments during the conduct of limited face-to-face classes.

Some 18,209 teaching and non-teaching personnel of DepEd Region 1 have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as of October 27. (Jerick Pasiliao)
