San Jacinto gets scenic mini-dam for year-round planting
A MINI-dam in San Jacinto that can irrigate 100 hectares of agricultural land was inaugurated on October 26.
Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia was joined by officials of San Jacinto led by Mayor Leo de Vera, National Irrigation Administration, irrigators’ associations of Barangays Awai, Labney and Lobong headed by Mely de Vera for the occasion.
The project, Bolo Small Irrigation Project or Bolo SIP. It has a check structure, embankment protection, spillway and access road. It has also a 7HP diesel engine with water pump.
Mayor De Vera thanked De Venecia and NIA for the project that will help about 60 farmers by giving them enough irrigation water.
He recalled that it was during the stint of his father as town mayor that they started developing the area with the use of a payloader and it already helped upland farmers who had no source of water after the rainy season.
Engr. Gaudencio de Vera, division manager of Pangasinan Irrigation Management Office, said the structure will hold water from the upstream for farmers’ year-round planting.
“Without his (De Venecia’s) support, it could have been tough for our budget to pass or it might be reduced,” De Vera said.
De Venecia was awed by the scenic area looks like a lagoon that can also be used for boating, fishing, floating restaurants, among others. He pledged to help develop its tourism potentials.
He said with the downtrend of COVID cases, he expects tourism industry to rebound soon. (Eva Visperas)
