Pangasinan detects 8 more ‘Delta’ cases
COVID-19 CASES BREACH 20K
THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) confirmed detection of eight new cases of COVID-19- Delta variant last Tuesday, August 31.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman said the new confirmed Delta cases are being monitored and investigated.
She said her office is closely monitoring health status of newly arrived Overseas Filipino Workers since one case was already detected in the province.
Pangasinan now has 11 COVID-19 Delta variants.
She said the surge of COVID-19 in mid-August could have been triggered by the Delta variant’s local transmission.
De Guzman clarified, however, that among the contributory factors of the reported COVID-19 surge in the province was the intensified contact tracing and testing, and the operation of the provincial molecular laboratory that made possible early releases of results in addition to the swab specimens sent to Baguio General Hospital.
She said specimens sent for genome sequencing are selected randomly.
The PHO reported that as of August 31, Pangasinan including Dagupan City registered 20,175 COVID-19 infections, that included the new 258 new cases; 3,143 are active cases and there were 16,266 recovered cases. To date, 766 have died from the infection. (Jerick Pasiliao)
