FOURTH District Rep. Christopher de Venecia has delivered on his commitment to help ease the constant flooding in Dagupan through the implementation of several flood mitigation projects, the biggest of which is the newly completed flood control project along the lower Pantal River basin from Poblacion Oeste to Barangay 1.

Built by the Department of Public Works and Highways, all the projects will prevent the water of the Pantal River and the lower Sinocalan River from overflowing their banks during the rainy season, sparing downstream communities from constant flooding.

Engr. Edita Manuel, chief of the second Pangasinan engineering district, said the three-phase construction and rehabilitation of the 1,246.6 meters long Riverbank Protection from the back of the Land Transportation Office in Poblacion Oeste to the back of the Value Hotel and Star Plaza in Barangay 1.

Manuel said the project will protect the downtown area of Dagupan and some inner barangays from flooding usually caused by the overflowing of the Pantal River during the rainy season.

On the direction of De Venecia, the area was designed to also serve as alternate route for motorized tricycles to ease the flow of traffic along A.B. Fernandez Avenue West as well.

The project has access roads to Reyes Street beside PhilPost and De Venecia Street and an exit road between Maybank and Star Plaza Hotel.

Another 130.9 meters long flood mitigation project that prevents the overflow of water from the lower Sinocalan River, also initiated by Rep. De Venecia, is benefiting residents of Barangays Bacayao Sur and Bacayao Norte

Another flood mitigation project is located on a portion of the Herrero Perez side of the Pantal River, in Sitio Guibang side in Barangay Pantal facing the Calmay River and the Tambac side of the Bolosan River.

Residents said the floods in Dagupan that occurred during the heavy rains and timed in with the rise of tidal water could have been worse were it not for the flood mitigation projects initiated by Cong. Toff de Venecia.  (Leonardo Micua)
