8 HEALTH WORKERS INFECTED

EIGHT health workers working in different hospitals in Dagupan City were confirmed by Dagupan City mayor Marc Brian Lim on Wednesday, August 18, to have been infected with COVID-19 virus.

In his message to the city Wednesday afternoon, he said the more the city’s health workers are vulnerable and susceptible due to rising number of cases in the city.

Lim said aside from the eight health workers, 37 more persons tested positive last Wednesday, bringing the city’s total active cases to 278. One death was recorded that day.

He pointed out that 17 of the newly-infected individuals were workplace infections, while the remaining cases were cases contact-traced on indexed cases.

“Workplace infections lead to household infections, nagkakahawaan sa opisina, at naiuuwi sa bahay”, Lim said.

Preparing for the surge in the city, the city government is stockpiling oxygen tanks for hospital use.

The city government also hired new nurses to assist in vaccination areas and quarantine facilities while Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) personnel were ordered to conduct stricter implementation of health protocols and the police assigned to watch city borders. (Ahikam Pasion)
