San Jacinto steps up COVID-19 vaccination

SAN JACINTO began conducting off-site vaccination starting on August 18 in order to reach as many senior citizens belonging to the A2 priority group.

This was confirmed by Municipal Nurse I Shara Mae Dela Masa who said the off-site vaccination first targeted senior citizens of Barangays Bolo, Labney, Lobong, Awai, San Juan and Sta. Cruz.

It complemented the ongoing on-site vaccination being done by the Municipal Health Office, which to date has already vaccinated 84 percent of Priority Group A1 (frontline workers in health facilities), said Dela Masa, adding that they are now close to hitting their target of 90 percent for this group.

She said vaccination for the A2 population initially reached only 20 percent but this went up to 40.8 percent with the use of the single dose Janssen vaccine of Johnson & Johnson.

Meanwhile, vaccination for the A3 priority group (persons with co-morbidities) already overshot its target by 36 percent.

Dela Masa, however, conceded that vaccination in San Jacinto is still a long way to go to hit the 70% target set by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) which is why it is unable to proceed with the vaccination of the A4 population (frontline personnel in essential sector).

“Hopefully, we can reach more senior citizens through our off-site vaccination,” said Dela Masa. (Erika Marco, OJT UL)
