Gov’t hospitals’ beds only for ‘kabaleyan’ COVID patients

PANGASINAN’S 14 government-run hospitals have stopped accepting COVID patients from the National Capital Region plus areas.

This was announced by Provincial Health Officer Anna de Guzman who said “Our hospitals are dedicated only for our provincemates in Pangasinan,” during the KBP forum on Wednesday.

She said that even as the 14 hospitals increased their bed capacities for COVID patients to  240 identified beds, about 70 percent are already occupied.

To efficiently manage the occupancy of the hospital beds, she said heads of their hospitals have been advised to have their suspected COVID patients to take RT-PCR tests immediately so patients with negative results can be transferred to regular beds.

Other private hospitals, as well as the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City, are also cooperating and have also increased their bed capacity for COVID patients to augment the hospital beds, De Guzman said.

Meanwhile, R1MC hospital Director Roland Joseph Mejia said R1MC is set to hold the groundbreaking in September for a new annex building in Bonuan Binloc for an additional 70 bed capacity COVID facility with the help of Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia.

He added that there is also a dormitory built by the Department of Health for COVID patients.

“So from 120, it will become 190 bed capacity for COVID patients,” he said. (Eva Visperas)
