Finally, more recoveries than new active cases
A DECLINING TREND NOTED IN PANGASINAN
THE number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan scaled down anew on June 17 with more patients that recovered from the COVID-19 infection than the number of new cases registered over a one-week period from June 11.
Based on records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), there were only 732 active cases still under confinement and isolation compared to 898 on June 10.
Recoveries recorded for the period totaled 477 compared to the 399 new confirmed cases that were logged, breaking the continued rise of the disease noted by the PHO over the last two weeks.
The biggest recorded recoveries of COVID-19 patients was reported on June16 when 111 patients were discharged from hospitals and LGU isolation facilities, with only 40 confirmed cases recorded that day.
There were only three days when there were more new confirmed cases than recoveries: June 14 (90 vs. 49 recoveries), June 11 (73 new cases vs. 59 recoveries) and June 12 (54 new cases vs. 34 recoveries).
Analyzing the week’s figure as compared to the data from the two previous weeks, health authorities believe that if the scaled down of cases continues for another two weeks, the COVID-19 contagion in Pangasinan could already be checked.
This trend could be similar to the trend in the National Capital Region and the four provinces around it.
Based on June 17 data from the PHO, Dagupan City continues to lead in the number of active cases in Pangasinan with 77, followed by Urdaneta (51), Alaminos City (38), Lingayen (35), Binmaley (33), Tayug (32), San Carlos City (28), Bayambang and Calasiao (27 each), Asingan (24), Bugallon and Malasiqui (23 each), Mangaldan and Villasis (21 each), Sta. Barbara (19), Mangatarem (16), Bani and Sison (15) and San Fabian(14).
Overall, Pangasinan already registered 10,937 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the contagion in March 2019, while 9,800 had recovered and 405 had died.
The continuing high rate of recoveries of patients is being attributed to the excellent health care management protocols adopted by local health professionals developed over the months since the beginning of the pandemic. (Leonardo Micua)
