City earns nothing from their operations in Tondaligan
152 PRIVATELY-OPERATED BEACH SHEDS
THERE are 152 beach sheds operating at the Tondaligan Beach in Dagupan City whose owners are profiting from their daily operations but are not paying any taxes to the city government.
The anomalous situation was confirmed by Dante Cadiz, Tondaligan Park administrator, during the virtual session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) on May 25 where he was invited as resource person.
In response to the query of Councilor Jose Tamayo if the owners of the beach sheds have been paying taxes to the city government, Cadiz said the sheds from the water tank of the former DAWASA areas to the whole stretch of the Tondaligan Park area are not paying any taxes.
Reason cited for non-payment was the absence of an ordinance fixing the rates and or percentages of taxes due the city government.
There were also doubts if the operators at the popular Food Strip inside the Tondaligan Park are paying anything to the city government.
When Councilor Michael Fernandez, the majority floor leader, asked how much are being charged customers for the use of the sheds, Cadiz said the beach shed owners are charging a uniform rate of P500 per day (7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) or P50 per hour on weekdays, and as part of the service of the shed, owners provide cooking implements, including chairs and a table for picnickers.
Cadiz said the Tondaligan Park administration has put up a poster stating the price matrix for all sheds in the area to ensure uniformity of rates to protect the latter from being charged exorbitant fees.
The council meeting ended with no specific action recommended to correct the anomaly.
