FORMER Mayor Leocadio de Vera Jr. of Bayambang died on April 10 suspected to be of COVID-19. He was 69.
Municipal Councilor Amory Junio, a close family friend of de Vera, confirmed the former mayor was declared dead on arrival at Bayambang District Hospital.
De Vera was positive in his antigen test for COVID but he died before he could be tested for RT-PCR, Junio said.
He was Bayambang mayor from 1998-2007.
Mayor Cezar Quiambao condoled with De Vera’s family and posted a message on his Facebook page that partly read : I have known Mayor Leocadio since 1997, and convinced of his genuine heart for public service, I did not hesitate to be his partner in fast-tracking the development of our town when he served his term from 1998 to 2007. Although we had our little differences afterwards, my respect for him has not waned. I honor him for his dedication to serve our people and the many things he has accomplished for our town.
