THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) called for a closed coordination between public and private hospitals and the Dagupan City government amid reports of continuously soaring COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR+) and are finding themselves admitted in Dagupan and Pangasinan.

The call was made by Councilor Michael Fernandez, the SP majority flood leader, who said the constant dialogue and coordination have become imperative because of the surge of COVID-19 cases not only in some parts of Isabela, Cagayan  and Nueva Vizcaya in Region II.

The first of such dialogue happened last April 6 initiated by Vice Mayor and SP presiding officer Dean Bryan Kua who too expressed alarm over the spillover of the new surge of COVID-19 cases to Dagupan City and Pangasinan.

The SP was alarmed after learning  that bed occupancy of big hospitals in Dagupan, including the Region 1 Medical Center, are already in full bed capacity with the new positive COVID-19 cases from the NCR+.

Noting that Dagupan has only three isolation facilities, the SP passed a resolution asking the Department of Education to make available some public schools not being used now for face to face classes to become temporary barangay isolation facilities.

Councilor Lino Fernandez, Liga ng mga barangay president, said if DepEd will allow the barangays to clean and sanitize the schools so that they can be accredited by the Department of Health as temporary isolation centers for COVID-patients who are asymptomatic and also with mild symptoms.
