DESPITE the continuing ravage of the COVID-19 pandemic, health authorities are also monitoring usual ailments that surface during the summer season in the Philippines.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, however, said despite several instances where the province of Pangasinan reached ‘dangerous’ levels of heat index, no cases of heat stroke and heat exhaustion among residents have been recorded.

Despite the zero cases, de Guzman warned the public to stay indoors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the heat is most intense.

De Guzman also advised the public to wear clothes made of cotton, and in light color as she reminded the public to be regularly hydrated.

Aside from the typical summer ailments, the PHO is also on the watch for sore eyes, rabies, diarrhea, and dengue.

As people tend to consume a mix of local summer delicacies including the ever popular halo-halo, de Guzman urged the vendors to use clean water and ice in their products to safeguard the health of their consumers. (Ahikam Pasion)
