Crime stats in Pangasinan down by 43%
CRIME statistics in the province for the first quarter have decreased by 43%, according to the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).
P/Colonel Ronald Gayo, Pangasinan provincial director, reported this to the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) recently.
Gayo said the PPPO has recorded 1,542 crimes in the province from January 1 to March 28 this year, 43% lower than 2,706 cases recorded same period last year.
He identified the three most-committed crimes as rape, theft, and robbery.
There were 344 anti-drug operations conducted that resulted in the arrest of 362 drug personalities. The police campaign against loose firearms and illegal gambling also yielded similar results.
Gayo also reported that since the implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) on March 17, 2020, a total of 187,177 individuals have been arrested for breaching protocols, such as violation of liquor ban, not wearing of face masks and face shields, physical distancing, purveying of fake news, illegal gambling, and disobedience.
In coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), 1,274 barangays have been drug-cleared, or 81% of the total barangays in Pangasinan.
PDEA provincial officer Dexter Asayco echoed PDEA’s intent to establish an intervention center called “Balay Silangan” that will accommodate not only drug personalities willing to be rehabilitated, but also individuals who availed of the plea-bargaining agreement. (Ahikam Pasion)
